Submission Requirements



Effective immediately, the Shroud of Turin Website will charge modest Publication Rates for each paper published on the "Scientific Papers and Articles" and "Religion and Philosophy" pages of the site. This is necessary to cover the costs of production and help offset website bandwidth charges. It will also eliminate the need to include any banner advertising on the website and ensure continued, totally free access for all viewers. Of course, there is no charge for letters or articles appearing on the "Comments From Our Viewers" page.

Publication Rates

These are typical of the publication rates that many journals charge. The Publication Rates are flat fees based on how the materials are submitted. If you send your materials via Electronic Submission, either on disk or attached to an e-mail (preferred), there is a one-time Publication Rate of US$50.00 per article. If you send your materials as a Printed Submission and manual data entry is required to convert your paper to electronic form, there is a one-time Publicaton Rate of US$100.00 per article. If your paper includes photographs or illustrations, embed them into the file if possible. If you submit them as part of your Electronic Submission, there is no additional charge for their inclusion in the article. If you send 35mm slides or photographic prints with your submission, you will be charged a Scanning Rate of US$10.00 per image. These rates are for articles of reasonable length. Note: The Shroud of Turin Website reserves the right to require an additional fee if the paper is of exceptional length or contains many images and/or illustrations. The website further reserves the right to reject papers that are deemed inaccurate, irrelevant or inconsistent with the standards of quality subscribed to by this site.

Electronic Submissions

Submit your article electronically as a Microsoft Word document (.doc) file attached to an e-mail if it is less than 4 MB in size, or via postal mail on a CD-Rom disc if it is larger. Do not include your paper in the text of an e-mail as accurate formatting information will be lost. Most papers will be converted to Adobe Acrobat .pdf format, which accurately duplicates your article's formatting and style, so review everything carefully before submitting it. What you see is what you will get (most of the time). Also, make sure you include your correct e-mail address with your electronic submission. If submitting via CD-Rom, include a printed copy of the article for reference. PC format is preferred over Macintosh format, although either will be accepted. Every effort will be made to convert the file properly. Should difficulties be encountered, materials will be returned and you will be asked to resubmit in PC format.

E-mail Attachments

If you are attaching files to your e-mail submission, make sure the total size of all the attached files is less than 4 MB. If you submit too many files (or too large a file) in a single attachment, your entire message may be rejected by my server without it ever reaching me. Sending one attachment per e-mail seems to work best. There are limits on my mailbox allocation and I receive a considerable amount of mail every day, so there is always something in the box beside the material you are sending. If necessary, break your submission into several parts and send them 24 hours apart. That will give me ample time to download each batch and clear the mailbox. If you anticipate sending a large number of files, please contact me first so I can plan accordingly.

Special Design Requirements

Some papers include complex charts and tables. If your article includes such material, embed the original Excel, Access or Powerpoint files into your Microsoft Word file. Just be sure to position the charts, tables and images exactly where you want them. This guarantees the accuracy of your article when it appears on the Internet. If you are attaching multiple files to your e-mail submission, make sure the total size of all the attached files is less than 4 MB. Make sure your data files are accurate, since they dictate what will appear on the website.

Return of Original Materials

If you wish your original materials returned to you, please state this clearly in your cover letter or e-mail and please add the appropriate amount to cover the necessary return postage. All materials will be returned promptly upon publication of the article.

Photographs and Illustrations

Photographs and illustrations should be embedded directly into your Word document file. It is not necessary to include large, high resolution (300dpi) image files. These take much more time to download and must be reduced to 72dpi for the website anyway. Size the image to fit comfortably on the page and avoid images that fill the page entirely. Do ensure that the positioning for your illustrations and photographs is exactly where you want them. What you see is what you will get. Be sure to include all necessary captions as well.

Digital Scanning Service

Scanning of images is available for an additional charge of US$10.00 each per reflected light original (photographic prints, illustrations, etc.) or for each transparency or 35mm slide.

Copyright Information - Important

Clearly indicate the appropriate copyright credit information for your text and for each individual photograph or illustration (if necessary). All articles submitted remain the property of the respective authors and international copyright laws will be strictly adhered to. By submitting an article, you are granting the Shroud of Turin Website non-exclusive One-Time World Rights to reprint your work on this website. You retain all other rights. If your paper has been published previously in a journal or other publication, check to ensure that you are legally authorized to grant these reproduction rights. If rights must be granted by a third party, you must obtain and fax a copy of the written authorization to this website at 719-689-2313.

Multiple Language Submissions

If you wish to submit your article in multiple languages you may do so. However, one version must be in the English language. Articles are welcome in Spanish, Italian or French although others will be considered. Ensure that each version is correct and that all punctuation and accents are exactly as you wish them to appear. If any special fonts are necessary, you must provide these to me separately so they may be installed on my system. Otherwise, your paper will not appear correctly. TrueType fonts are preferred. You are responsible for the accuracy of your submission. Publication Rates are applicable for each version you submit. Only one Scanning Rate is charged per image, no matter how many versions of the article it appears in. All other requirements are exactly the same.

Payment Information

Payment must accompany your submission and must be made in US dollars. You may pay via check, money order or credit card in the United States. Overseas submissions may pay via checks drawn on an American bank or an American branch of an overseas bank, credit card or wire transfer. Please note that additional fees will apply for wire transfer payments. Contact me in advance for further instructions if you choose this option.

Credit Card Payments

You may submit your payment using any major credit card via the "Publication Rates for Papers & Articles" section of the "Secure Order Form." Make sure you carefully compute the full amount for your submission, including total charges for Publication Rates and Scanning. You will be asked to enter these on the Order Form, so compute the total charges in advance. If you are unable to access the "Secure Order Form" or do not wish to send your credit card information over the Internet, see the "Alternate Order Form" for detailed instructions on telephoning, faxing or mailing your credit card payment. No papers will be published until all necessary fees have been paid.
