Biography: John "Dee" German
John "Dee" German was one of the original team of STURP researchers who went to Turin, Italy in October 1978 to perform the only comprehensive set of tests ever performed on the Shroud. Dee retired in 2008 after a 42-year career as a scientist, electro-optical engineer, and assistant professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He became involved in Shroud of Turin Research while teaching Physics at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He was initially drawn in by a challenge from a fellow professor, Dr. John Jackson, to help create a full-sized, three-dimensional statue of the Shroud front image from a photographic negative of the cloth. The statue consisted of a full-height, bas-relief stack of 570 box-cardboard cutouts generated by the VP-8 image analyzer. Following that work, Dee joined the team of STURP scientists for the trip to Turin and subsequent analysis of the result. Dee presented a paper at the 2008 Shroud Science Group International Conference at Ohio Stae University titled "On the Visibility of the Shroud Image."
Dee has put together a presentation summarizing what's known about the Shroud and relating his story of how God transformed his life and brought him from scientific agnosticism to belief in God and Christ. Chris Knabenshue
Biography:
Chris as been doing research on the Shroud of Turin since his first year in Catholic seminary studies in 2000. In 2001, Chris put together a small presentation on the forensics of the crucifixion and the Shroud of Turin for a seventh and eighth grade class at his home parish in South Bend, Indiana. Seeing that the topic was of great interest, he expanded this presentation and began offering it to different parishes, organizations, and other groups. He has currently traveled to six different states presenting on the Shroud of Turin. He was also asked by Dr. Gilbert Lavoie, a good friend and the catalyst for his interest in the Shroud, to deliver the talk of Fr. Walter Abbott at the 2001 Dallas International Conference of the Shroud of Turin. Through this humbling experience, Chris has made many connections with the researchers and scientists directly involved in Shroud research. He is currently the president of the Shroud of Turin Society of Northern Indiana which commits itself to educating the public on the Shroud of Turin as a means of a tool of evangelization. Using his background in Theology and Philosophy, he has written a chapter in Dr. Bart Saucelo's Revised Second Edition of Resurrection Documented: A Window to the Supernatural, which discusses the Shroud within the context of the miracle of the Resurrection. In the summer of 2005 he launched The Crucifixion and the Shroud website (www.crucifixionshroud.com) in an attempt to bring the science, the history, and the meaning of both the Crucifixion of Jesus and the Shroud of Turin in a powerful and visual way to the level of the lay person.Scope & Content of Presentation:
Chris's main presentation "The Crucifixion and the Shroud" is a dramatic presentation on the forensics of the Crucifixion and the much disputed Shroud of Turin using all five senses of the body. The first section of the presentation draws on Chris's past experience in acting and dramatically takes the participant through the process of crucifixion. It utilizes many pictures, props, and replicas of First Century crucifixion instruments as well as something to taste and smell. The second part of the presentation is on the Shroud of Turin. This is mostly an overview of the science and history of the Shroud, brought down to the level of the lay person. This section also uses several images to illustrate what is being said. In between the Crucifixion and the Shroud sections, a brief meditation slide show is presented to highlight the spiritual nature of the subject. Before and after the presentation, questions are welcomed, and visitors are allowed to browse and view the hands-on exhibit. Which features, above other things, plants from Israel that are believed to have been used for the crown of thorns, and an actual relic (piece of) the Shroud. Both of these items were generously donated to the exhibit. The presentation itself lasts one hour. More information on this presentation, including pictures of the exhibit, can be found at www.crucifixionshroud.com.Equipment Requirements:
All of the equipment for this presentation is already owned, although, depending on location of the presentation, it is very helpful that the host have: a large screen, LCD Projector, and Sound equipment. Alfonso Muñoz-Cobo
Biography:
Born in Pamplona (Spain) in 1954, holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the National Research Council (CSIC).I felt attracted by the Shroud since the publication in National Geographic, back in 1980. From that moment, I read everything in my hands, but I did not get really involved till we moved to Rome for professional reasons. There I had the chance to study a one-year course (1995) directed by the Centro Romano de Sindonologia Giulio Ricci (at present Centro Diocesano) where I received the approach as "Catechista della Passione" that made me feel involved in lecturing. Today this course has grown up and is become a Post Degree University Course, taking place within Università Lateranense (Pope's University) in Rome.
I am a member of the Spanish Centro Español de Sindonología, and collaborate with activities (educational, lectures, round tables, exhibitions, TV programs) of the group within my area, in different settings (parishes, schools, state and private universities). I have published a few articles in specialised and general magazines (mostly LINTEUM, the official organ of the Spanish CES). (More complete Curriculum Vitae available in Spanish if required).
Scope & Content of Presentations:
I have usually been asked to lecture on the medical studies on the shroud, the medical-legal approach, and the relationship between the shroud and Gospels. Probably due to my background and personal interest, these are the subjects I would rather lecture on. I am a believer myself but have always approached the Shroud as a scientific subject, trying to update and summarise what rigorous scientific studies can tell us from all sources.I have also lectured frequently on the history of the Shroud, the scientific approach to the Shroud and several subjects about the Sudarium of Oviedo, the Oviedo cloth (general overview, medical-legal study, the original research done by EDICES -Research Team of the Spanish Society of Sindonology- and the history of the Sudarium).
I have published on another subjects (history, art, personal experiences, events reports) and lectured in video sessions about the Sudarium of Oviedo and other relics. Usual duration of lectures 1 to 1 ½ hrs. with ½ hr. for questions.
Equipment Requirements:
- Computer power point slide show (for projection through video cannon). Therefore requirements may change for lecture and audience benefits.
- Microphone availability if necessary.
Area available for speaking:
I could lecture in Spanish, but could also in English and Italian (mostly in post lecture colloquia). I consider Spain my natural environment to lecture. Other countries would mean more complexity (due to travelling time); but anything is possible with advanced notice.Honorarium:
No fixed fee required. Host responsible for travel and lodging expenses. Time cost might be considered depending on the area for lecturing and personal tasks organization.Contact:

Paul Pitt
Biography:
Paul Pitt is a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago and was a student of Father Francis Filas, S.J. during the mid 1960s when Father Filas was professor of theology there. In those days Loyola required every Christian student to earn a minor in theology and a minor in Christian (Jesuit) Philosophy. The Shroud and Father Filas were a hot topic at Loyola University. Every student and each of the faculty were familiar with the Shroud story as far as it went in the 1960's.Paul earned a Master of Public Administration from Roosevelt University of Chicago and, with 40 years of criminal justice service, Paul is a graduate of the Illinois State Police Academy and the Northwestern University Traffic Institute. Paul has been a law enforcement management instructor and established a number of criminal justice advancements from Carbondale Illinois to Chicago and Lake County before taking on similar responsibilities in Orange County California.
Paul has been an instructor at the Learning Annex 2000 to 2007; Army & Navy Academy of Carlsbad; Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, Cal-State L.A., McHenry College (Illinois), John A Logan College, and University of Illinois. Paul is a certified pre-Olympic Coach (NRA) 1980 until 1992, International City Management Association (1979 to 1990), Helms Group., Orange County Government in-service training, the North County Christian Fellowship, St. Paul's Villa (San Diego), Mission Restoration LLC. Paul is also a member of the California Association of Licensed Investigators, the Naval Intelligence Professions and the North San Diego County Christian Fellowship.
The Shroud and the Sudarium are physical evidence of a remarkable event: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The physical evidence value of the Shroud together with the intensive analysis of so many scientists sparked Paul's State Trooper intuition that there was a "case" to be made for those who doubt the resurrection. There is physical evidence and there are credible witnesses and documentary evidence as well. So Paul, a licensed private investigator since 1978, did just that, i.e., made a case.
Scope & Content of Presentation:
The evidence is valid and can be presented in a consistent manner as though to a jury (audience) and each can decide for themselves what they believe to be true about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This type of presentation has proven valuable with "seekers" who do not yet believe in God but may be in hospice or in the midst of a difficult health situation. It has been valuable in nursing homes, hospitals, managed care and groups who are "seeking answers" to why do things happen? (why me?)
In addition to Shroud literature Paul may cite sources such as (1) Preservation of Medicolegal Evidence, Arthur J. Ed Prior
Biography:
As a NASA researcher with over 80 publications and presentations, Ed Prior studied aerodynamic drag effects on spacecraft, searched for evidence of global greenhouse warming, and modeled atmospheric ozone variations. His degrees include aeronautical engineering, astronomy, and information systems. He was Principal Investigator for PAGEOS, still the 2nd largest satellite injected into earth orbit. In 1972 he found high altitude hydrogen concentrations 200 per cent greater than given in the U.S. Standard Atmosphere, an unexpected and controversial result. But 36 years later, the Air Force Space Command announced Prior's results had finally been confirmed---and incorporated them into the new Air Force Space Battlelab atmospheric model. He was also co-discoverer of the "Winter Helium Bulge", called "the most striking recent result concerning composition of the upper atmosphere" in the NASA publication Significant Achievements in Space Science. The discovery led to his becoming a co-recipient of the NASA Reid Award for the "best paper of the year", and the NASA Exceptional Service Medal. He has been cited in The Stratosphere: Past and Present, the COSPAR International Reference Atmosphere, the U. S. National Report on Geodesy, and others. There are six references to his research in three different annual editions of Significant Achievements in Space Science. For the 2004 NASA Sci Files TV show "The Galactic Vacation", he served as a technical script consultant and actor---as the "Moon Guy" describing Apollo lunar discoveries. The show won an Emmy Award in the Education category, his last year with NASA. (Editor's Note: A more extensive Biography of Mr. Prior was published on this website in November 2008 in conjunction with an article he co-authored titled "Chronological History of the Evidence for the Anomalous Nature of the C-14 Sample Area of the Shroud of Turin.")Prior has met and corresponded with many of the scientists who have studied the Shroud of Turin, as well as experts in imagery, textiles, First Century Jewish and Roman laws, burial traditions, and forensic science. He has written or co-written several articles on the Shroud, which he studied at the 2010 Turin Exhibition. He learned of the Shroud as a child in Chicago, when he saw the first TV documentary about the mysterious cloth. Prior will discuss results of some investigations it has undergone, the similarities with another mysterious image (the "Jospice Mattress"), and why he thinks modern science has still not identified the precise chemical/physical reactions that may have created one or both of them. He will also explain why he believes the 1988 Shroud carbon dating (1260-1390!) was flawed and needs to be carefully redone. Prior has a separate but complementary interest in the owner of the True Shroud, Joseph of Arimathaea, and has done extensive research on legends surrounding him---including the traditions that he fled Judea to escape the Sanhedrin's retaliation for his assumed role in Jesus' disappearance. A separate presentation is available on this topic, entitled "Joseph of Arimathaea---Mystery Man of the Gospels."
Scope & Content of Presentation:
- PowerPoint Slides
- In English: direct scientific or general presentation on the Shroud (about 1 hour plus questions).
- The scientific presentation discusses associated aspects of physics and chemistry, including the use of some astronomical technologies to study the cloth.
- The general presentation covers history & scientific aspects of the Shroud, the carbon dating attempt, and how astronomical technologies have been useful in its investigations.
- A separate & independent 1 hour presentation about the true Shroud's owner, entitled "Joseph of Arimathaea---Mystery Man of the Gospels" is also available.

Ray Schneider
Biography:
Ray is a cross-disciplinary trained scientist with an undergraduate degree in Physics, a Masters Degree in Engineering Science, and a Ph.D. in Information Technology. He first became aware of the Shroud from a presentation offered at a Jesuit retreat house in the 1960's. For many years he carried a picture of the Shroud in his wallet and often brought it out to show people. When the work of STURP began Ray corresponded with Fr. Otterbein of the Holy Shroud Guild. He studied the shroud literature and data extensively and began giving lectures on the Shroud in the late 1970s. He is still doing that these many years later updating his talk and keeping abreast of the latest research.Scope & Content of Presentation:
Ray approaches the Shroud from the dual viewpoints of "the eye of reason" and "the eye of faith." He reviews the Shroud's religious significance as it applies to the passion of Jesus Christ and the events reported in the gospels. He then examines the markings on the shroud, especially the image in the light of objective science which reveals that the Shroud image is not an artistic production. Ray describes the current theories of Shroud origins advanced by Ian Wilson and others and the work and findings of the scientists, beginning with the first photographs of the shroud in 1898, through the STURP researches and down to the present. Ray's focus is on the search for the truth about the Shroud. It is an ever unfolding story.Equipment Requirements:

Biography: Thomas J. Senn
Thomas Senn is an ordained Permanent Deacon for the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio. "Deacon Tom" was ordained by Bishop Anthony M. Pilla in 1990. He has nine years of Seminary training. Prior to being ordained, he was an Analytical Chemist involved in pharmaceutical research and later a Hospital Sales Associate for an international pharmaceutical company for twenty eight years. He is presently in full-time parish ministry having served as a Jail and Prison Chaplain for seven years. Deacon Tom has a vast understanding of anatomy, scientific methods of analysis, statistical analysis, and peer review. His scientific background began in Chemistry at Marian University, (Indianapolis, Indiana) followed by additional studies in Pharmacology and Toxicology at Indiana University. He received the Outstanding Young Men of America Award in 1973, because of his knowledge and presentations on the Shroud of Turin. What began as a fascination, became a hobby, and then a life-long spiritual journey.
Deacon Senn recalls that at age nine, his mother showed him a picture of the full body image on the Shroud. She said: "This is a picture of Jesus as He looked after the crucifixion." He never forgot her words or the picture itself. At age thirty, Tom joined a group of men from the church to spend a weekend at Alverna Retreat House in Indianapolis. It was on that Retreat that he found in the library a book titled, Doctor at Calvary by Dr. Pierre Barbet. That spark of interest suddenly became a flame and he contacted Fr. Adam J. Otterbein, the founding President of the Holy Shroud Guild for in-depth information and film strips. Fr. Otterbein, continued to tutor him by means of articles, phone conversations, and books. That was forty years ago …. The rest is history.
His audiences, have included numerous High Schools, Colleges, and the following Christian Denominations: Lutherans, Methodists, and Presbyterians, in addition to his native Roman Catholic Parishes and Organizations. Biography: J. R. Watts
J. R. Watts, a Bible prophecy researcher for over 30 years, founded the New York Shroud of Turin Society in 2001. He also worked as a cable TV producer, airing many Bible prophecy programs. J.R. offers portable exhibits of life-size Shroud images: four life-sized images reflecting both positive & negative aspects of the image, depicting the frontal & dorsal angles of the man whose image was mysteriously captured for all time in the burial linen cloth known as, the Shroud of Turin, which J.R. says is a sign of God's invisible existence.
Scope and Content of Presentation:
J.R. Watts will discuss the Shroud from the perspective of modern day forensics but also in relation to the holy scriptures and the fulfillment of Bible prophecies and the discovery of Bible Codes pertaining to the Shroud, directly linking Yeshua/Jesus with previously hidden codes encrypted within the pages of the Bible, suggesting there is every reason to believe the Shroud bears the supernatural imprint of the Son of God, at the moment of resurrection. Join J.R. as he literally connects the Biblical dots of the past, present & future to see how it all adds up. J.R.'s seminar & display lasts upwards to 1 hour with time for questions and answers.
The Shroud of Turin exhibit is offered to any group, church, school, club or house of worship. Our exhibit is also available for news media interviews, scientific discussions and various other videotaped programs and for display at charity fundraising events for worthy causes. We are non denominational and do not promote any particular religious, social or political agendas, although we extend an invitation to the United Nations General Assembly to invite us to display the Shroud at the UN Building. We are also seeking a church who can display our Shroud replicas in the NYC area on an ongoing basis for times when we are not on the road. Our only goal is to make straight a highway in the desert for our Lord and Savior, Yeshua, or Jesus of Nazareth, because the King, Christ our Redeemer, is returning soon and J.R. is one of many watchmen on the wall.
Equipment Requirements:
A microphone or P.A. system. Hosts will be asked to provide us with 2 men to carry our life size framed Shrouds from our van and into your facility.
Honorarium:
No fee but hosts are invited to help us with traveling/lodging expenses, as/if needed, depending on travel time, mileage, gas and toll costs. We are also available for back to back 2 day Shroud seminars if requested and can expand the scope of the presentation if desired to longer lengths in time and subject matter.

Phillip Wiebe has a doctorate in Philosophy from an Australian university, and has taught in Canadian universities for thirty years. His area of special interest is in assessing the weight of evidence, and he brings this expertise to bear in defending the claim that the Shroud is the burial shroud of Jesus Christ. He has published articles on various topics and several books, including Visions of Jesus (Oxford University Press, 1997, 1998), which is a careful examination of visionary experiences and their significance for biblical Christianity based on interviews with thirty living visionaries who report that Jesus Christ appeared to them. Biography: Wayne Wright
Wayne Wright graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 1965 with a B.A. in religion. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth Texas, with a Master of Divinity degree in 1969. He ministered to college and university students through the Baptist Student Union, and has ministered as a pastor and full time Christian Counselor. Wayne is has been a guest speaker at various churches and campuses, speaking on the topics of evangelism, discipleship and moral purity. For the last 10 years he has done extensive research and study on the Shroud of Turin. In 2002 Wayne wrote his 30 page book, The Shroud Of Turin, Scientific Evidence That Jesus Christ Raised From The Dead, which summarizes the most important information concerning the Shroud of Turin. Wayne is convinced that the Shroud of Turin presents the greatest opportunity for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to our generation.
Scope and Content of Presentation:
Equipment Requirements:
- Wayne begins by piecing together the history of the Shroud from the first century until today
- He then shows how science has moved from being the "enemy" of faith to being its greatest ally. It is now science that presents the greatest evidence for the literal, physical, historical fact of the resurrection
- He discusses the awesome power of forensic science and how it has been applied to investigating the Shroud
- He itemizes the scientific evidence that supports that the burial cloth originated in the Jerusalem area in the first century; that the image is not a painting nor a drawing; that the image is not man- made, nor is it a fraud of any kind
- He points out the peculiar characteristics of the image that uniquely fit ONLY the crucifixion of Jesus Christ
- He isolates and explains the discoveries that give evidence that the body whose image is on the Shroud did not stay in the Shroud, but mysteriously vanished from the Shroud
- His presentation clearly shows why the original carbon 14 dating showing that it was a 14th century artifact was faulty. He explores the evidence and the logic that show that the burial cloth dates in the first century, not the 14th
- Wayne goes over the scriptural teaching that shows that faith in the resurrection of Jesus is a central requirement of the gospel
- Wayne will use a Power Point presentation AND/OR use part or all of a professionally produced DVD. For one session: I will need a minimum of 90 minutes. For two sessions: I will need 30 to 45 minutes for the first and 90 minutes for the second
Large screen and microphone are needed. If host can provide a DVD player and projector that will be helpful, if not, I will bring my own. I must have a room dark enough for the viewing of projected material. This is important for quality viewing.
Honorarium:
No set fee, but will receive a love offering. If a professionally produced DVD is used, I will need to add $1.50 per person to cover the public license fee that is required for compliance with copyright laws. Host is expected to assume all travel and lodging expenses.
Area of country available for speaking:
Wayne lives in the Oklahoma City area. Available to travel anywhere with an advanced notice.
