Closeup of a water stain. This stain is located next to one of the large patches sewn into the Shroud by the Poor Clare nuns to repair damage caused in the fire. Note that a dark scorch area extends beyond the edge of the patch. Most water stains on the Shroud are from the water used to douse the 1532 fire.
