Professor Giovanni Riggi, (back to camera), leader of the Italian scientific team, inserts a special vacuum nozzle between the Shroud and the Holland Cloth in an attempt to gather dust, pollen and other particulate matter from the cloth's fibers. Unlike the American team that had been planning their research for over two and a half years, Riggi and his team were given only two weeks notice to prepare the detailed set of experiments they performed on the Shroud! Riggi's team also used a medical fiber optic endoscopic camera system to examine and photograph the underside of the Shroud.
